Countries usually brag about their military and economic power, their political presence, and their geopolitical and geographical location. With global developments, some have begun to brag about their diplomatic power in accomplishing what military power cannot achieve. This is what I felt when I settled in the United States, where I noticed how many politicians in Washington brag about their diplomacy and how it has transformed. At the hands of the fox of diplomacy, the late Henry Kissinger, soft power was no less important than military power.
However, as a result of my follow-up of international politics in general and politics in the Middle East in particular, I found that there is Emirati diplomacy that competes with American diplomacy in terms of strength, and in many cases surpasses it in many issues. Emirati diplomacy has become under the leadership of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the guidance of the first diplomat, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the Emirates, is a soft force to be reckoned with in international forums.
This introduction was necessary before delving into the last stand of this strong diplomacy, represented by what was confirmed by the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs and the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, that the UAE is committed to its continued support for the Palestinian people. Ambassador Nusseibeh also stressed that the UAE’s priority is to work on Ending the ongoing violence in Gaza and providing protection for Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip and that the UAE will continue to demand an urgent humanitarian ceasefire to end the bloodshed and facilitate the immediate, safe, sustainable and unhindered delivery of relief and humanitarian aid, especially to the most vulnerable groups, especially the sick, children and the elderly. Age and women.
The UAE also stressed the importance of the full and urgent implementation of Security Council Resolution No. 2712 (2023), and about the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip after the cessation of the war, Ambassador Nusseibeh stressed that the UAE’s contribution to any reconstruction effort in the Gaza Strip will be conditional on the presence of a strong commitment, supported by concrete steps. To launch a practical plan to achieve a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, in line with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and what is being negotiated between the two parties with full international support.
If the UAE draws the features of a final solution to the most thorny issues in the Middle East, without firing a single bullet, then the strength of the position and logic based on truth without excess and negligence is considered the most effective weapon and the most capable of achieving the desired goal of the Palestinian people, which is the establishment of a sovereign state, and with this advanced position. The UAE has provided what none of the countries claiming to support the Palestinian people could provide.
The Emirati position, which was confirmed by Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, came in the wake of another Emirati diplomatic achievement, which was organizing a visit to the Rafah crossing on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, where the diplomatic delegation, which included 15 Security Council ambassadors and United Nations officials, was briefed on the extent of the destruction in the Gaza Strip. Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh said in press statements that “there must be a serious road map and rebuilding the infrastructure in Gaza.”
So, in short, whoever wants to do something towards the Palestinian people must rely on the Emirates and its diplomacy, which will certainly return rights to their people, but the Palestinian people, and specifically all political factions, must humble themselves and make concessions for the sake of Palestine by uniting the Palestinian ranks. If this action is completed, it will complement the efforts. Emirati, the time has come for the Palestinian people to enjoy true peace, and the Palestinian forces must be aware that the Palestinian people and their blood are more precious than the positions that some politicians seek in Palestine.
