In his speech at the General Assembly, Ambassador Danon showcased the dozens of letters that Israel sent to UNRWA over the years that did not lead to any change, despite proving Hamas’s infiltration of the organization, and emphasized: “Standing by UNRWA is standing by Hamas.”*
The UN General Assembly convened today (Wednesday, December 11) for a session and vote in support of UNRWA. In addition, another resolution was approved calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza that is not conditioned on the immediate release of the hostages.
Ambassador Danon presented to the General Assembly dozens of letters that Israel sent to UNRWA and the UN about clear evidence showing that Hamas had taken over UNRWA and is operating from within its facilities in Gaza. Ambassador Danon also quoted a New York Times article published this week on the subject.
*Ambassador Danon: “In Hamas’ eyes, UNRWA schools are the ‘best obstacles’ to shield their terrorist operations. Even the New York Times echoed what we have known for a long time: Hamas has infiltrated UNRWA at every level. It is a fait accompli.”*
The Ambassador also condemned the intention of the assembly to approve the resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza without conditioning such an agreement on the immediate release of the hostages: “By approving this resolution, you are abandoning the hostages and choosing cooperation with Hamas. History will not forget this choice, and neither will we.”
