The Ongoing Struggle in Syria: A Nation Divided.

By Maria Maalouf

The war in Syria started in 2011 when people wanted more freedom from their government. Since then, it has turned into a big fight involving many groups and countries. Even after all this time, the fighting hasn’t stopped completely. Today, the government led by President Bashar al-Assad controls most of the country, but not all.

Rebels, especially in the north, are still fighting back. They’ve taken over some areas recently, which makes people wonder if the government might be in trouble. Because of the war, millions of people had to leave their homes. They’re either living in other countries or moving around inside Syria. Many are hungry because there isn’t enough food, and money is worth very little.

Foreign countries are involved too: Russia and Iran help the Syrian government with soldiers and weapons. Turkey has taken control of some northern parts to fight against groups they don’t like. Israel sometimes bombs places in Syria where they believe enemies are hiding. Even though some fighting has slowed down, it’s still happening in places like Idlib. When civilians get hurt, it’s very sad.

Talks to make peace have not worked well. Everyone wants different things, and other countries have their own agendas too. The war and sanctions from other countries have made life very expensive. Jobs are hard to find, and the stuff to rebuild homes and businesses is broken or gone.

Some Syrians are trying to go back home, but it’s not safe or easy for them. What happens in nearby countries can affect Syria too, making things more complicated.

The future might look like more fighting, with different groups still wanting to control parts of Syria. Or, Syria could stay split up, with different areas under different controls. Though it seems tough, one day everyone might agree to stop fighting.

The war in Syria is very complicated because it’s not just about Syrians fighting each other; it involves many countries and different reasons for fighting. The people of Syria have been through a lot, and finding a way to stop the war and start healing is not easy. But with help from around the world and by working together, there might be a chance for peace and for Syria to start getting better.
