MAHSA Act Passes Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C.— In a huge milestone in promoting human rights in Iran and holding the Islamic Republic accountable, the MAHSA Act has passed the Senate 79-18, as part of the “21st Century Peace through Strength Act”.

The MAHSA Act, with backing from the Iranian-American community, enforces existing human rights sanctions on Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, President Ebrahim Raisi, and their offices.

The legislation represents an historic achievement for the Iranian-American community, which in the wake of Mahsa Amini’s murder, launched an unprecedented political campaign in Washington for the bill and other means of pressure on the regime and support for the demonstrators.

Within hours of the law’s overwhelmingly bipartisan passage, the Islamic Republic sentenced dissident rapper Toomaj Salehi to death for his anti-regime songs.
