This visionary initiative acknowledges the significant impact that religion has on over 84% of the world’s population and seeks to harness the collective strength of religious communities in supporting climate action and the objectives outlined in the Paris Agreement.

Fast Tracking the Energy Transition – Day 3 Snapshots: The Global Decarbonization Accelerator takes center stage, prioritizing decarbonization across energy-producing and heavy-emitting sectors. This initiative heralds a decisive step towards a cleaner, more sustainable energy landscape. Additionally, fifty Oil and gas companies commit to eliminating methane emissions by 2030 and achieving full decarbonization by 2050, setting ambitious targets for emission reduction. An inspiring pledge from 118 countries to triple global renewables capacity and double energy efficiency by 2030 underscores a strong commitment to scaling up renewable energy and driving energy efficiency.

The health sector received substantial attention during COP28. A significant endorsement came as 123 countries supported the COP28 UAE Declaration on Climate and Health, reaffirming the vital nexus between climate action and public health. Furthermore, the UAE’s pledge of $150 million towards water scarcity solutions signifies a crucial commitment to addressing one of the most pressing global challenges. The symbolic handover of the Global Youth Statement amplifies the youth’s voice in climate advocacy, emphasizing their integral role in shaping the global climate agenda. Additionally, further commitments to Loss and damage demonstrate continued dedication to addressing the repercussions of climate change on vulnerable communities.

Collaborative Ventures Driving Innovation and Local Climate Action: The COP28 Presidency’s collaboration with Investcorp gave rise to a groundbreaking $750 million Climate Solutions Investment Platform. This platform aims to bolster companies driving decarbonization and combating climate change impacts, a significant leap towards sustainable innovation. Moreover, the inaugural Local Climate Action Summit witnessed the convergence of over 250 mayors and governors from 60+ countries. CHAMP, a pioneering initiative endorsed by 63 governments, and a fresh $65 million commitment to support city networks signal an unprecedented dedication to scaling multi-level climate partnerships and fostering impactful local climate actions worldwide.

Sustainable Innovations and Urban Resilience Spotlighted: Initiatives like the Cement and Buildings Breakthroughs aim to accelerate the shift towards sustainable buildings by 2030, championing eco-friendly infrastructure. The UAE’s Waste to Zero Initiative pioneers solutions to decarbonize waste management, setting a precedent for global waste sustainability efforts. Additionally, the Waste MAP, utilizing satellite monitoring to measure methane emissions from waste, marks a technological breakthrough in monitoring and addressing waste-related emissions. Moreover, the Road Transport Breakthrough rallies for zero-emission vehicles by 2030, ushering in a transformative shift towards sustainable transportation. Collaboration with UN-HABITAT in hosting a ministerial meeting underscores a concerted effort to fortify urban environments against climate adversities.
