On 7 February 2023, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Census Bureau, Foreign Trade Division released its annual U.S. trade statistics for 2022 with foreign countries, showing nearly $27.8 billion in total bilateral trade between the United States and United Arab Emirates.
U.S. exports to the U.A.E. eclipsed $20.8 billion in 2022, a 22% ($3.85 billion) increase from 2021. The U.A.E. remained the top U.S. export destination for the entire Middle East and North Africa region for the 14th year in row. U.S exports to the U.A.E. supported approximately 125,000 U.S. jobs.*
U.A.E. exports to the U.S. surpassed $6.9 billion in 2022, a 16% ($950 million) increase from 2021.
The U.S. trade surplus with the United Arab Emirates amounted to over $13.9 billion in 2022, a 26% ($2.85 billion) increase from 2021. This trade surplus was the United States’ 6th-largest globally.
U.S. trade with the U.A.E. has quickly returned to the amount and volume enjoyed before 2020 and 2021, when COVID-19 negatively impacted the total trade between the two countries.
