Baseless accusations leveled by the Sudanese government to the UAE

The government of the United Arab Emirates refutes the “baseless allegations” leveled by Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mr. Haris Idris. This denial was voiced during the Security Council session on Friday, April 19, 2024.

During this session, the Sudanese representative accused the UAE government of unfounded claims, alleging that the UAE has been supplying arms to the Rapid Support Forces engaged in conflict with the government of Mr. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan since April of last year.

This rebuttal was articulated in an official address presented by Mr. Mohammed Abu Shehab, the Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, during the security session held on Sunday, April 27, 2024. In the statement, Mr. Abu Shehab asserted, “The UAE unequivocally rejects the baseless allegations put forth by the Sudanese representative to the United Nations, which run counter to the longstanding fraternal relations between our two countries.”

Mr. Abu Shihab lamented, “It is regrettable that these accusations are directed towards the UAE government. It appears to be an attempt to divert attention from the conflicts unfolding in Sudan, thereby disregarding the severe humanitarian crisis stemming from the ongoing strife in the nation.”

The official correspondence underscored that “there is no merit to the allegations implicating the UAE in any violent acts or efforts to destabilize Sudan. Moreover, the UAE does not extend military, political, financial, or logistical support to any factions involved in the conflict in Sudan. These allegations are baseless fabrications devoid of substantiated evidence.”

Expressing disappointment, the UAE conveyed through its representative to the United Nations its dismay at the failure of the concerned parties in the conflict to reach a ceasefire agreement amidst the political-military turmoil in Sudan. Mr. Abu Shehab emphasized, “The United Arab Emirates is troubled by these spurious media campaigns disseminating false information instead of fostering endeavors conducive to meaningful dialogues that could facilitate the attainment of lasting peace.”

The Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations further stated, “The UAE has pledged to actively pursue a peaceful resolution to the Sudanese conflict. It will spare no effort in seeking a peaceful settlement with all stakeholders. The UAE-supported peace process aims to lead Sudan towards enduring peace and the establishment of a comprehensive peace framework, underpinned by national consensus on the imperative of forming a civilian government.”

It is disconcerting that a faction in Sudan chooses to disregard the Sudanese government’s responsibility for the policies that precipitated this conflict, which has wrought havoc on the nation. This mindset deliberately distorts facts to evade accountability. It is a misguided attempt to absolve the current regime in Sudan of responsibility for its flawed policies that have pushed the country to the brink of disaster.

As for the UAE, when deploying its forces abroad, as exemplified in Somalia, their mission was to quell the civil unrest in that nation and counter the gangs fostering chaos. As an active participant in international politics, the UAE lends support to any initiative aimed at nation-building or state stabilization.

The global community recognizes the UAE’s commitment to fostering international and regional peace. The Sudanese people discern the fallacy of this baseless propaganda against the Emirates. With its moral integrity, the UAE extends a message to the Sudanese: Embrace unity, reconciliation, and harmony. The Emirates stands ready to support Sudan’s journey towards unity and concord.
