The United Arab Emirates has firmly stated during discussions at the first and second committees of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) that Iran’s nuclear program cannot be addressed in isolation from Tehran’s aggressive and destabilizing actions across the region.
The UAE emphasized that any discussion on the Iranian nuclear file must fully account for the comprehensive threats posed by Iran’s behavior.
The UAE strongly condemned the renewed Iranian terrorist attacks that targeted vital civilian infrastructure, describing them as a dangerous escalation. It called on the international community to adopt a comprehensive approach that simultaneously addresses three interconnected issues: Iran’s nuclear program, its ballistic missile development, and its destabilizing regional conduct.
The statement expressed particular concern over Iran’s continued uranium enrichment at 60%, a level that brings it perilously close to weapons-grade material. The UAE warned that such high-level enrichment constitutes a direct threat to both regional and international security, further undermining trust in any diplomatic efforts and increasing the risk of uncontrolled escalation.
This position reflects the UAE’s consistent policy of supporting regional security and stability in the Gulf and the broader Middle East. The country has repeatedly backed genuine diplomatic solutions to the Iranian nuclear issue, provided they are serious, verifiable, and prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear threshold state or acquiring military nuclear capabilities.
The UAE’s remarks come amid heightened regional tensions, with Iran accused of backing armed militias and carrying out attacks on civilian and energy facilities in several Gulf countries. In addition to its nuclear activities, Tehran continues to advance its ballistic missile and drone programs, extending their reach across the region.
The UAE has made it clear that dealing with Iran’s nuclear program separately from its broader behavior will not yield sustainable results. Instead, it urges the international community to pursue an integrated strategy that links the nuclear issue, the missile program, and Iran’s destabilizing activities under unified diplomatic, economic, and security pressure.
By issuing this strong statement, the UAE — a consistent advocate for peace, dialogue, and international law — reminds the global community that lasting stability in the Middle East can only be achieved by halting Iran’s destabilizing policies and compelling Tehran to fully comply with its international obligations with complete transparency.
