The advantage of the UAE is that it is working for sustainable development in the region and the world. It has prioritized investment in clean energy as part of the move towards the economy of the future. After the significant projects implemented by “Masdar” in all parts of the world, it is launching the first phase of electricity production from the solar energy station that the UAE provided to Yemen is being implemented in Aden. The UAE has previously implemented many projects within the framework of rebuilding infrastructure in Yemen to establish stability.
In this context, the announcement of the provision of the UAE solar energy station in Yemen came to be the first and largest strategic clean and renewable energy project in Yemen by Masdar , where work has begun to produce energy ranging between 20 and 30 percent of the station’s estimated capacity, with 120 megawatts, which will be operational at total capacity within three months.
The project will save the Yemeni government in Aden more than $100 million per month from the cost of producing electricity based on oil and its derivatives.
It is worth mentioning that the solar power station project came in implementation of the directives of the President of the Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people at the electrical level. The implemented station results from a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Electricity and Energy in Yemen and “Masdar”, to supply Aden with energy, the agreement also includes establishing transmission lines and conversion stations to transmit and distribute electricity generated from the station.
The solar power station is located in Bir Ahmed, west of Aden, and extends over 1.6 million square meters. It was built alongside a 9-kilometre-long conveyor. What is striking about the implemented project is that it was designed according to the highest international standards of professionalism, as it allows the station to be designed with a capacity of 650 megawatts in the future so that solar panels are added to the project.
Reliance on clean and renewable energy in Yemen falls within the framework of the UAE’s strategic vision. This project is a practical response to the culture of destruction spread by countries that negatively interfere in the affairs of Yemen.
