UN Conference in New York Addresses Palestinian Peace Prospects.

As Monday, July 28, 2025, a pivotal UN conference titled “Achieving Peace: Consolidating Outcomes and Charting the Way Forward” is in progress at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Initiated by a French-Saudi partnership, the high-level gathering seeks to tackle the Palestinian issue and push forward a two-state solution. H.E. DPMFM Ayman Safadi, Jordan’s Foreign Minister, is among the key participants, with the Embassy of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Washington D.C. spotlighting Jordan’s diplomatic engagement.

The event aims to build on previous achievements and map out a path toward lasting peace. Images from the conference depict a assembly of diplomats and officials, captured in both group settings and active discussions, underscoring the collaborative spirit of the initiative.

The conference has, however, been overshadowed by the absence of Israel and the United States. Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, expressed strong dissent, noting, “This conference does not promote a solution, but rather entrenches an illusion. Rather than focusing on securing the release of hostages and dismantling Hamas’s grip on terror, the organizers are lost in detached debates and sessions.” This critique highlights the diplomatic rift surrounding the event, with both nations declining to participate.

The non-attendance of these major players has fueled skepticism about the conference’s ability to yield practical results or foster a balanced dialogue. Nevertheless, the participating nations remain committed to advancing the Palestinian cause, using the platform to explore viable peace strategies. The Embassy of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Washington D.C. has limited comments to authorized personnel, indicating the delicate nature of the ongoing talks.

As the conference continues, its outcomes may influence future international efforts on the Palestinian question, though the absence of key stakeholders could complicate progress. Further developments are expected as the event unfolds in the days ahead.
